Why Visit New Zealand?
Published Wednesday, August 27th 2014New Zealand offers some of the most amazing ocean and beach scenery, awe-inspiring natural marvels like waterfalls and volcanoes, spiritual MÄori cultural tours and events, and a never-ending series of unforgettable and extraordinary tours of a land that seems more magical than real.
Places to visit and things to do in New Zealand:
- Visit the real Home of Middle-earth. Tours abound that showcase the scenery (including the tranquil village of Hobbiton, with its hill-homes, smoking chimneys, bluebell flowers, etc.) that left you breathless in The Lord of the Rings and in the new Hobbit Trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.
- Traveling by rail or train is sometimes the only method by which you will be able to view the majestic and magical sights of some of New Zealand’s most beautiful national parks, including Tongariro National Park, which shelters three volcanoes among hot springs and glistening lakes.
- You can enjoy exploring the underground caves that New Zealanders recognize as just as beautiful as the above ground landscape. One of the more popular caving areas is the North Island’s Waitomo Caves– here you can float through the caves by boat or raft (black water rafting), you could actually climb through the caves – and last but not least you could also simply walk through the caves, slowly and easily exploring the crags or the glow worm grottos.
- New Zealand’s accessible coastlines provide for exciting water activities as well. Take a guided Kayaking tour through the Marlborough Sounds and other nature reserves and swim or snorkel with dolphins. Or perhaps take a scenic cruise or boat tour along North Island’s Bay of Islands and Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf, or South Island’s Marlborough Sounds and Fiordland, and take in the mountains, fiords, waterfalls, glaciers, etc.
Important things to keep in mind when considering a vacation to the land down under…
- New Zealand is host to a wide variety of weather. It is basically the opposite from that of the United States. (Summer lasts from December-February while winter is technically May-August). New Zealand even offers a very popular skiing destination during their winter months!
- Don’t forget your sunscreen when you sunbathe or even hike around outside in New Zealand – according to New Zealand’s official travel website, the country’s minimal air pollution actually leads to stronger UV rays.
