Why You Should Take a Trip to Australia…
Published Tuesday, July 22nd 2014 - Updated Tuesday, August 12th 2014Every year parents, children, retirees, or 20-year-olds who are “taking the year off,” travel to the usual destinations: California, Cancun, Florence, London, Madrid, Dublin, Amsterdam, or Montreal. If you are interested in jumping into a truly unique vacation experience, consider traveling to Australia instead. The “Land Down Under” offers some of the most beautiful beaches, breathtaking natural phenomenon alongside man-made architecture, exhilarating native cultural experiences, and delicious and diverse food options.
Places to visit and things to do in Australia:
- Australia provides an exotic spin on the everyday food and wine experiences. It should be a serious part of any planned vacation to Australia.
- If you’re exploring the even less traveled ground and want to sample some delicacies of the Northern Territory, consider a trip to the Mindil Beach Sunset Market in Darwin, Australia, where you can shop along the beach and experiment with foods ranging in style from Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, Chinese, Brazilian, Greek, to Portuguese and many others.
- You might be aware of the fact that you can see the Great Barrier Reef from outer space, but have you ever seen it up close in person? You can swim and snorkel around this beautiful natural wonder, located in the north-eastern area of Australia along the Queensland Coast, and experience not only the visual beauty of the reef’s colors and shapes, but also the impressive eclectic collection of tropic fish and turtles that also frequently visit or live in the reef.
- Don’t forget to take in some of the Great Ocean Road, stopping perhaps to surf at Bells Beach, or to see the Twelve Apostles – stunning limestone stacks that jut out of the Southern Ocean.
- Fly over, drive through, hike, cycle, or ride camel-back through Australia’s impressive desert-like outback. You’ve been to the steakhouse before, but you’ve never seen the never-ending expanse of brown ridges in the real outback here. A more accessible outback adventure can be had in Outback New South Wales. Here you can travel through time and culture, investigate Australia’s mining history, examine Australia’s famous Royal Flying Doctor Service, and of course, see the dingoes, and desert peas.
Important things to keep in mind when considering a vacation to Australia…
- In Australia the weather is mostly opposite from that of the United States. Summer lasts from December through February, and this season might be the best to avoid as it is also the school vacation time for Australian students. However, you might be a tad chilly in Australia during their winter months (our summer) of May to August.
